Backup Sets PDF Print E-mail

The beauty of iTekLogic is that once you set up your backups, they will effectively run themselves – with the option, of course, of starting a backup manually if you need to for any reason.  Backups are simple to set up, too.

Setting Up Your Automatic Backups
When you install iTekLogic’s data backup software, you will be asked to create your “backup sets,” which is simply the groups of files that you want to backup according to the schedule you set.  If you are imagining the time it will take to select every file individually, stop right there!  The iTekLogic software wizard gives you several different timesaving options for selecting files.

The first way that you can select files for a backup set is by folder.  For example, you might program your backup set to backup all of the files in the My Documents folder, or you might select multiple folders located within My Documents.  You could also choose individual files if you wanted.  This wizard enables you to select the desired folders or files from a window that looks similar to those used in Microsoft Explorer.

Another way that you can select files for a backup set is by file type.  This wizard provides you with a list of commonly used applications, from which you choose the types of files to be backed up.  For example, if you frequently use Microsoft Word, you can program your backup set to automatically back up all Word files.

The iTekLogic software also allows you to preview how much space a backup set will take up on the server once it is compressed and encrypted.

When you set up a backup set, the software will ask you what days and times you want the backups to run.  The default setting runs your backups at night during the week, but this can be changed to whatever schedule works best for you.  As a convenience for people with varying schedules, a backup set can be programmed to run at a different time every day of the week.  For instance, you could program your backup set to run Monday afternoon, Tuesday night, Wednesday morning, or even skip a day.

Setting Up Multiple Backup Sets

iTekLogic doesn’t limit you to just one backup set and schedule.  Instead, you can program several different backup sets, each with a different schedule.  This feature is particularly useful if you update certain files more frequently than others.  For example, you might need certain files (such as personal files that you update infrequently) to be backed up only on the weekend, while others (such as work-related files) need to be backed up daily during the week.
